Ways to protect yourself from spammers:

Don't post your e-mail address anywhere on the Web. Spammers use automated programs to crawl the Web for e-mail addresses. Don't post your e-mail address on forums! If you must, include your address as an image which is readable by human eye but not so easily by automated crawlers - yet.

Use disposable addresses. Although they aren't appropriate for sensitive e-mail, services such as Mailinator allow you to create e-mail addresses without registering. Addresses are created when a message is sent to them.

You can create an e-mail address which forwards all incoming e-mail to your regular mail account. Spamgourmet and Sneakemail provide mail forwarding services. The disposable addresses expire automatically or you can manually delete them.
